With a small basin and a washcloth, with y'all to check him afterwards? If it's the being restrained/having your legs held up part, that night be a good compromise. And if he didn't do a great job, he'd still get perfectly clean in the bath at night. Maybe try it for a bit and reassess later? My brother hated being on his back for changing. My mom used to wipe his bum when he was tummy down.
