Utter Frustration

On January 22nd my husband and I emailed our family doctor two letters that would help us with getting food stamps and appealing my disabilty turn-down and starting my husband’s disability case.  We literally wrote the letters for him, all he had to do was to print it out on his letterhead and sign it.

Today is February 8th and has this been done? No!  Have I called, has my husband called several times?  Yes!

Not to pick on this one doctor, for the most part they all seem to be this way.  I know they are busy, but literally these letters make the difference between how fast we will burn through our money, possibly leading to bankrupcy and how fast we can get our disability processes restarted and started.

I honestly don’t get it.  My only wish is that a doctor or a friend of a doctor would see this post and realize that when we ask for these letters, they are needed as soon as possible and are very serious for patient’s cases.

About mamasick

Emily Cullen is a pen-name. A former local radio personality for seven years, I still remain active in the voiceover business. My husband, “Grant”, and I have been married since 2002 and have already experienced the “worse, “poorer, ” and “sickness ” of marriage. We both suffer from chronic illnesses and diseases which have progressed. My diseases include Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, and most, recently and seriously, Lupus. Despite all of the challenges we have faced, we were able to have a little boy, “Tyler,” born in September of 2006, which is the best thing to ever happen to us. Tyler has been classified as a “special needs” child with diagnoses which include Anxiety, OCD, and Tourette’s Syndrome. We also share our home with two cats. We live in New Jersey and I enjoy reading fiction and learning more about taking care of my son. Before my son, I used to enjoy watching movies…watching television for that matter! Before Lupus I enjoyed fine dining and fine wine. No longer able to work, I am now wondering, “What will I do with the rest of my (somewhat) young life?” Blogging sounds like a good start!

I hope you can get what you need as soon as possible.
I’ve been in similar situations with forms. (Docs here don’t give out their email addresses and I’ve heard of patients being penalized for using them if they somehow find them.)
What I’ve had to do is make an appointment to get the form signed.
Yes, it is annoying and draining but unfortunately it seems to be the most efficient way to accomplish anything. Even getting a new prescription written based on formulary changes.
Even with an appointment just for paperwork it may not help. (We never did manage to get some student loan papers filled out ‘right’ before the GP got annoyed.) However, this has been what has worked best for me.
I will add that I’m lucky and can usually get an appointment with my GP in less than two-three weeks. If your GP’s office works differently then this might not work.

I always find it best to make friends with someone in the office. That way when you need an appointment in a hurry or a paper signed they may advocate for you. It stinks but sometimes it seems that’s the way its done.
